Ujwal Gadiraju from Delft University of Technology visited us on May 8-9. These two days were dedicated to presenting recent work, sharing our research interests, and, most importantly, brainstorming about our recent and ongoing projects that involve crowdsourcing.
Visits
IAI outing and hackathon
We spent two days in the Grand Hotell in Egersund working on a framework for Personal Knowledge Graphs (PKGs). The outing was devoted to discussions, hands-on coding, and group activities. The PKG ecosystem has been defined in our recently submitted paper. Apart from hard work, we made use of beautiful weather and enjoyed a hike to Trollpikken. Photos from the outing can be found here.
IAI outing and hackathon
We spent a day in Utstein Monastery Hotel in Mosterøy working on bringing back to life and planning further development of our conversational movie recommender system, the IAI MovieBot. The outing was devoted to discussions, hands-on coding, and group activities. The original IAI MovieBot is described in a CIKM’20 demo paper [PDF]. Photos from the outing can be found here.
IAI outing in Sauda
We spent a couple of days in Sauda discussing research methodology, overall group strategy, and values. We also found a moment to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the weather while skiing.
Some time away
In the coming months, we will be away visiting other research groups. Krisztian Balog will spend a year-long sabbatical at Google, London, UK, while the PhD students will each do a 3-months internship: Shuo Zhang at Bloomberg, London, UK, Darío Garigliotti at Signal Media, London, UK, and Trond Linjordet at ILPS, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
IAI retreat at Åmøy
We stayed a couple of days at the island of Åmøy for a coding retreat and to have some fun.
