Maryam Saleki joins IAI as a PhD student. Maryam will be working on efficient and effective Transformer models for conversational AI. She will be supervised by Vinay Setty and co-supervised by Krisztian Balog.
People
IAI: New members and name
We welcome two new members to our group.
- Martin Georg Skjæveland is an Associate Professor II, with a research focus on semantic technologies and in particular ontology engineering.
- Magnus Særtsen Book is a PhD student, working on predicting slow onset disasters (such as Influenza, COVID-19) from heterogeneous data sources using deep learning, under the co-supervision of Vinay Setty.
To better reflect our research focus, we have decided to change the name of the group to Information Access & Artificial Intelligence, while keeping the acronym IAI.
PhD Opening
We have a fully funded PhD position in Knowledge Graphs for Conversational AI.
See this page for the project description and application instructions.
Application deadline: April 19, 2020 May 3, 2020.
(Remember to apply specifically for the topic Knowledge Graphs for Conversational AI.)
Vinay Setty joins IAI
Associate Professor Vinay Setty joins IAI as a faculty member. Vinay works on IR, text mining and machine learning on text with applications to fake news detection and other news mining tasks. In addition, Vinay also works on network representation learning techniques with respect to scalability and applications to news and social media.
Some time away
In the coming months, we will be away visiting other research groups. Krisztian Balog will spend a year-long sabbatical at Google, London, UK, while the PhD students will each do a 3-months internship: Shuo Zhang at Bloomberg, London, UK, Darío Garigliotti at Signal Media, London, UK, and Trond Linjordet at ILPS, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Trond Linjordet joins IAI
Trond Linjordet joins IAI as a PhD student. Trond will work on deep learning from sparse data.
Heng Ding joins IAI
Heng Ding from Wuhan University, China will spend 14 months with us as a visiting PhD student. Heng will work on question answering over structured data.
Prof. Balog
Krisztian Balog got promoted to full professor of Computer Science. An interview took place on the occasion (available only in Norwegian).
