Krisztian Balog has received an unrestricted gift from Google, “as part of Google’s growing efforts to support excellent research in academia” to support his work on conversational search, user modeling, transparency, and explainability. The gift will be used towards funding a PhD position, which will be announced soon.

Trond Linjordet is nominated for Best DC Paper Award at CIKM’20
Trond Linjordet has been nominated for the Best Doctoral Consortium Paper Award at CIKM’20 for his work on Neural (Knowledge Graph) Question Answering Using Synthetic Training Data.
Top performance at SMART Task Challenge
We participated in the Semantic Answer Type prediction (SMART) task Challenge at the International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC ’20). Our submissions, led by Vinay Setty, earned the top place on both the DBpedia and Wikidata leaderboards on all evaluation metrics. A write-up will be posted soon.
Maryam Saleki joins IAI
Maryam Saleki joins IAI as a PhD student. Maryam will be working on efficient and effective Transformer models for conversational AI. She will be supervised by Vinay Setty and co-supervised by Krisztian Balog.
